[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [Ontbirds] Bluebird and Red-necked Grebes - Ottawa From: Brian_Mortimer <brian_mortimer(AT)carleton.ca> Date: 4 Apr 2010 11:29am This morning at 8:00 there were three Red-Necked Grebe straight out from the parking lot at Shirley's Bay, in the west end of Ottawa. Later, at 10:30 am, I found one male Bluebird at the most northerly nesting boxes on Bowesville road. Tree Swallows are in abundance today and a few cowbirds. Directions: The Shirleyıs Bay parking lot and boat launch is at the north end of Rifle Road which is on the north side of Carling Avenue west of Moodie Drive. For Bowesville Road: Travel south on Riverside until it becomes Limebank (new route), then left on Leitrem along the southern perimeter of Uplands Airport. Take the first right; this is Bowesville. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [Ontbirds] A call of Red-headed Woodpecker sightings! From: Barbara Frei <frei.bb(AT)gmail.com> Date: 4 Apr 2010 11:47am Dear Ontbirders, Starting this spring and continuing for the next 3 years, I will be studying Red-headed Woodpeckers in the Northumberland and Peterborough counties of central Ontario. And I can use all the help I can get to locate these beautiful and swiftly declining birds. If you have any sightings this year or know of areas with past sightings or are a landowner/know a landowner with appropriate habitat (old woodlots, fencerows, etc.) I would love to hear from you! This study is part of my Ph.D. research and the findings will be shared directly with Nature Conservancy Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources to push for conservation and recovery actions for this species in Ontario. Help me discover why this birds is disappearing from Ontario and across its entire range! If you have any sightings, landowner contacts or questions please contact me at: barbara.frei(AT)mail.mcgill.ca I look forward to hearing from you! Happy Birding. Cheers, Barbara Frei, M.Sc.
