A female GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, the county's second record, was found on the
23rd at Montana de Oro Campground just east of the visitor center (Jim Royer).
It was not refound despite intense efforts by many birders.
A male PAINTED REDSTART, another extremely rare bird in this county, was found
on the 23rd at the Oceano Campground near the nature center off Pier Ave (Jamie
Chavez) Subsequent observers have found it ranging throughout the campground
area, seemingly restricted to conifers.
Also in the Oceano Campground and Lagoon area the following warblers were found:
(2) NORTHERN WATERTHRUSHES, BLACKPOLL WARBLER, and TENNESSEE WARBLER.
A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was found in Cambria along Santa Rosa Creek on the
24th. (Karen Clarke)
A BLACK-THROATED, BREWER'S, and CLAY-COLORED SPARROW were all found at the mouth
of Islay Creek at Spooner's Cove in Montana de Oro State Park on the 24th.
