Codes for Birders in Orange County: channel 11 subcode 22 (national code).
We have an accessory website that has recent photos of rarities (when
submitted) and maps of some birding spots in the County, including a map of
Huntington Central Park showing the "local" names for birding areas at:
http://members.cox.net/orcorba/
Observers: Mel Sanchez, John Fitch, Star Howard, Alex Viduetsky, Doug
Willick, Joel Weintraub.
The LITTLE BLUE HERON continues at the Seal Beach Natl Wildlife Reserve,
Anaheim Bay at low tide (7:45 am) this morning (6/2). It was briefly in a
place where it could be seen from PCH, but then foraged its way into the
channels where it was out of sight of the highway (as is its habit). This
is a restricted area.
Also today, a sighting of a very late SANDHILL CRANE, flying over the Seal
Beach NWR was made. Given the date, it just might be summering in this area
so keep your eyes open.
On 5/29 at Turtle Rock Community Park in Irvine a possible nesting pair of
LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCHES were seen and heard. The pair (along iwht American
and Lesser Goldfinches) were in sycamores and pines along the concrete path
that follows the creek to the southern edge of the park, approximately 50 ft
of less from Shady Canyon Rd.
