hotline: Georgia Rare Bird Alert
date: July 25, 2010
number: 770-493-8862
to report: 770-493-8862 or lambertsewell AT att.net
coverage: Statewide
compiled: July 21, 2010 (8:17 PM)
compiler: Jeff Sewell
transcriber: Mark McShane

The compiler noted that fall shorebird migration is really picking up, a
report came in on 7/21 of 17 shorebird species on Little St. Simons Island
in Glynn County on the Georgia coast.

5 OSPREYS and 3 COMMON MOORHENS were seen at the E.L. Huie Land
Application Facility ponds in Clayton County on 7/17. Common, but early,
migrating shorebords were seen there as well.

On 7/16 and 7/17 post-breeding dispersal of SWALLOW-TAILED KITES in
Georgia was evidenced by sightings in Richmond County in the Augusta area.
This area is very near or on the Fall Line which is a geographical feature
in Georgia which marks the boundary between the Coastal Plain and the
Piedmont regions of the state.

Also, an important post came out this week detailing results from aerial
survey work done along parts of corridors of the Satilla, Altamaha,
Ogeechee, and Savannah Rivers to document the current roosting status of
Georgia's SWALLOW-TAILED KITE population. Two more aerial surveys will be
flown next week, stay tuned to Georgia Birders Online for possible results
of those flights as well.

site on 7/18 and by the same observer.

A male PAINTED BUNTING has been reported in Buford in Gwinnett County
