Welcome to the Arkansas Rare Bird Alert for July 9, 2010, sponsored by the
Audubon Society of Central Arkansas (ASCA).  ASCA meets at 7:00pm the second
Thursday of each month. The next field trip will be Saturday, July 17, to
Arkansas Post.  Check the www.ascabird.org website for details on upcoming
meetings and field trips.

From around the state recent sightings are:

A Swallow-tailed Kite along with about 5 Mississippi Kites was seen at Dollarway
in Pine Bluff, near the Fairgrounds and Heston Stadium.

days.

Inca Dove was found near the marina in MillwoodState Park, and a possible Inca
Dove was seen near the intersection of S. Rice and W. 6th in Little Rock, but
has not been relocated.

At Bald Knob National Wildlife Refuge, three American White Pelicans, uncommon
summer visitors,  were seen.

At Arkansas Post National Memorial, Anhingas and Common Moorhen can be seen.

At Two Rivers Park in Pulaski County, a juvenile White Ibis was reported along
the walkway by wet area with cattails across from the parking lot/portapotty
area. This species is typically not found in the central part of the state.

A White Ibis photographed at Lake Millwood in southeast Arkansas near the
spillway appeared dingy and had a dark smudge on its back, indicating a possible
oiled bird from the Gulf.

Least Terns have been seen flying over ponds at the Mulberry sewer plant along
Vine Prairie Road near the Arkansas River.

Early shorebird migration is indicated by Upland Sandpipers heard in flight
recently.  Keep your eyes and ears open!

Thanks for calling the Arkansas Rare Bird Alert.  Your contributions make the
Rare Bird Alert possible.  If you would like to leave a message, please wait for
the chirp.  Good Birding!
