Welcome to Pennsylvania Audubon's and the Patriot-News' Birdline. This
Birdline covers sightings made primarily during the week prior to
Thursday, July 24, 2008.
ADAMS COUNTY:
A SANDHILL CRANE was observed in the Gettysburg area on July 17 (MO). It
continued to be seen through at least July 18 (BM).
JUNIATA COUNTY:
The CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continued to be observed at the Amos Renno farm
near Van Wert through at least July 21 (CK, AR). Directions: On the
Cedar Spring Road SR2006, you turn south at Van Wert on SR2007, go past
the greenhouse, take the next left by the Amish school house on T447.
The first farm on the left is Amos Renno, if you follow his fence on the
left, you come to 2 blue bird houses and the fence that runs
perpendicular with the road is where the sparrow has been perching and
singing. It sometimes flies into the cornfield past the fencing. You can
park by his home/barn, but try not to block his driveway. You can park
along the road near the fencing, as it is a quiet road, but try to get
off of it as far as you can (CK).
LANCASTER COUNTY:
An immature WHITE IBIS (possibly the same bird that was seen at
Conejohela Flats last week) was found near stop 1 at Middle Creek
Wildlife Management area on July 17 (BB). It continued to be seen
through at least July 23 (GS, PF, JH, ME, GM, GK, JM, JS).
Birds seen on Conejohela Flats between July 19 and 20 included 1
SANDHILL CRANE and 2 FORSTER'S TERNS (DB, BS, TA, BC).
There was a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE at the intersection of Puseyville and
Street Roads near the State Game Lands 136 parking lot on July 20 (TR).
YORK COUNTY:
Two FORSTER'S TERNS were spotted resting on buoys off from the Quaker
Race Day Use Area at Gifford Pinchot State Park (RG).
