Welcome to Pennsylvania Audubon's and the Patriot-News' Birdline. This
Birdline covers sightings made primarily during the week prior to
Thursday, August 7, 2008.
ADAMS COUNTY:
An immature WHITE IBIS was observed between July 31 and August 2 along
Marsh Creek just downstream from Red Rock Road Bridge (MW, BM, MO).
CUMBERLAND COUNTY:
Stoughstown Pond produced 1 SPOTTED SANDPIPER, 5 LEAST SANDPIPERS and 1
PECTORAL SANDPIPER on July 31 (VG).
Waggoner's Gap Hawk Watch reported counting 1 OSPREY, 3 BALD EAGLES, 2
SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, 6 COOPER'S HAWKS, 12 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, 6
RED-TAILED HAWKS and 9 AMERICAN KESTRELS between August 1 and 6 (CH, DG,
RF).
LANCASTER COUNTY:
The possible LITTLE EGRET continued to be seen at either Bluegill Road
Cove or along Route 472 of Octoraro Lake through at least August 1 (CB,
CC, PF, RM, TR, KL). A SNOWY EGRET and an immature LITTLE BLUE HERON
were also observed at Octoraro Lake between August 1 and 2 (JD, EW, TG).
Birds seen at Conejohela Flats between August 2 and 3 included up to 4
SNOWY EGRETS, 5 juvenile LITTLE BLUE HERONS, 1 CATTLE EGRET, 1 juvenile
WHITE IBIS, 4 adult and 15 immature BALD EAGLES, 28 SEMIPALMATED
PLOVERS, 2 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 21 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 4 SOLITARY
SANDPIPERS, 13 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, 19 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 302 LEAST
SANDPIPERS, 4 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 2 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 4 CASPIAN TERNS,
8 FORSTER'S TERNS and 3 BLACK TERNS (BS, DB, TR).
The immature WHITE IBIS continues to be seen through August 4 at Middle
Creek Wildlife Management Area (MC).
LEBANON COUNTY:
Second Mountain Hawk Watch reported counting 1 SHARP-SHINNED HAWK and 1
BROAD-WINGED HAWK on August 6 (DS).
TIOGA COUNTY:
A CASPIAN TERN was seen at Lake Cowanesque last weekend (DW).
Hammond Lake/Ives Run produced 1 BALD EAGLE, SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, SOLITARY SANDPIPER, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 1 CASPIAN TERN and 1
BLACK TERN last weekend (DW).
